Business Cloud Summit 2009
Cloud Computing has the potential to revolutionise the way government delivers critical public services in the UK. That’s one of the messages that Martin Bellamy, the government’s new Cloud implementation officer, will be delivering at the Business Cloud Summit 2009.
“Cloud Computing has the potential to become the dominant model for how we deliver information-based services for years to come,” says Bellamy. “Organisations in both the public and private sectors should be asking how we can leverage the opportunities opened up by this exciting new delivery model.
“In addition to the obvious potential for cost reduction, there is scope for greater agility and flexibility to deliver business solutions in rapidly changing environments. The reduction in physical infrastructure and power consumption associated with cloud computing reduces the impact on the environment, enabling a greener approach to IT.”
Joining Bellamy to debate the future of public sector Cloud Computing will be Adam Afriyie MP, Shadow Minister for Science and Innovation as well as representatives of public sector organisations that have already made a Cloud Computing commitment and will discuss the benefits they have seen and the lessons they have learned.
Setting the Cloud agenda
The Business Cloud Summit is a one-day conference in London in association with Business Cloud 9, the leading Cloud Computing community portal. The Summit will bring together key thought-leaders from both the private and public sectors as well as the Cloud Computing industry.
Cloud Computing pioneers Marc Benioff, CEO of salesforce.com, and Zach Nelson, CEO of NetSuite will lead the debate on current and future trends in the market. Other keynote speakers include Google’s Head of Enterprise UK and Ireland Robert Whiteside; Martin Geddes, Strategy Director, BT Design; Rebecca Wettemann, Vice President Research, Nucleus Research; and Dr. Katy Ring, Principal analyst with the Bathwick Group.
Delegates at the Business Cloud Summit will also hear the real-world Cloud Computing experiences of a wide range of private and public sector organisations including: Telegraph Media Group; City University; The Wise Group; Gloucestershire Country Council and Easynet Connect among others.
Stuart Lauchlan, editor, www.BusinessCloud9.com, says: “The Business Cloud Summit will be the culmination of an astonishing year in which Cloud Computing has firmly won its place on both the corporate and now the political agendas. Anyone with an interest in Cloud Computing – and that should be every organisation in the UK and beyond! - will find something to benefit them from the staggering line-up of expert commentators and industry champions that are participating in this inaugural event.”
Ben Heald, CEO of Sift Media, says: “I couldn’t agree more with Mr Bellamy; we are only just beginning to realise the benefits of Cloud-delivered systems. As the use of Cloud applications spreads through different areas of industry, the opportunities generated will be huge. We need to ensure that the UK technology sector remains in a prime position to capitalise on this trend. We are extremely excited to be hosting this distinguished selection of industry thought-leaders at such an exciting time in the development of Cloud Computing.”
Cloud Computing is the use of third-party IT systems and data storage over the internet. Gartner estimates that worldwide cloud services revenue will increase by 21% this year to exceed .3bn, and will rise to more than 0bn by 2013.
The Business Cloud Summit will be held on 2 December 2009 at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London. Attendance is open to CEOs/CIOs/CFOs/IT decision makers from private and public sector organisations.
