Objectivity, Inc., the leading distributed database for cloud computing users, announced today that it has been selected by Amazon Web Services (AWS), an Amazon.com company, as an AWS Solution Provider. With this distinction, Objectivity is recognized as an organization that helps customers to fully leverage the benefits of the AWS infrastructure.

Objectivity garnered attention from AWS after making a free 60-day evaluation of its flagship product, Objectivity/DB, available on Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). The launch made Objectivity/DB the first federated, distributed database product accessible in a cloud computing environment.

Objectivity began using Amazon EC2 as a way to execute highly parallel, distributed database demonstrations for customers, who wanted proof of Objectivity/DB’s flexible, scalable architecture without incurring capital expenditures. With the availability of the free evaluation on Amazon EC2, customers have a more advanced way to experience the benefits of Objectivity/DB.

Objectivity/DB has always been a natural fit for cloud computing; the original architects avoided the single server design in traditional databases in order to focus on providing a distributed database that could scale nearly infinitely. Objectivity/DB was the first database to demonstrate the ability to run in batch and online modes required by the IBM grid compliant application model; cloud computing uses grid concepts to provide distributed service and storage resources across the Internet on demand.

Developers who want to try Objectivity/DB on Amazon EC2 can access the product via two Linux-based Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) with bundled software for both 32 and 64 bit platforms. Both are based on the CentOS 5.2 operating system - a binary-compatible version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Free open source Objectivity/DB sample applications for data fusion, network management, and parallel processing are also available to try in a cloud environment.
