Hitachi to offer cloud computing services for local governments

The company is aiming for 300 customers and 25 billion yen ($269.6 million) in sales by fiscal 2015, the paper said.

The manufacturing group expects a surge in demand from local authorities for cloud services, which can reduce spending on information technology, strengthen data security and speed compliance with legal changes, the paper said.

Hitachi will provide three levels of service — on-demand applications, or SaaS (software as a service), shared networks for neighbouring towns and private networks for large municipalities, the paper said.

Any of the three options will cost about 30 percent less than purchasing its components individually, the paper quoted the company as saying. ($1=92.73 Yen)
