Unlike in the typical server-PC environment, cloud computing is based in the Internet where tools and services are accessed by users. One of the conveniences it offers is that users don’t need to have expertise or control over the technology infrastructure residing in the cloud. Salesforce.com, as a company that has built its name and fortune in cloud computing, has beefed up its capability by establishing a new data center in the island-nation of Singapore. salesforce did not reveal the investment it made to put the facility, but its magnitude is shown by the fact that it is the company’s only third data center and the first outside of its US home base. Officials said the company has been quite busy expanding its presence in Asia by opening up a few offices around the region and launching infrastructures such as a call center in India. In the Philippines, the company is represented by tech conglomerate IPVG. Salesforce.com said it is now ready to take Asia by its horn. Polly Summer, the company’s “chief adoption officer,” said cloud computing is perfect for Asian companies who want to get started but do not have the resources to maintain a conventional IT system.
